For twenty years, David Bedell was principal of West Florida Christian School in Sarasota, Florida. After receiving a Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Florida, he turned his attention to a long-held conviction that the Bible should be the focal point of every class. Because he had an undergraduate degree in biology, he first surveyed the entire Bible for illustrations of biological principles. He was delighted to discover that every aspect of biology was illustrated in scripture. He repeated the survey process for chemistry and physics, and again was amazed to find illustrations of every concept taught in these courses in the Bible. In like manner, courses in the social sciences were developed.
Why is a Bible-based, Christ-centered curriculum needed?
The modern Christian education movement is of recent origin and development. Much work has already been done to write beautifully illustrated, Christ-honoring textbooks. What is still needed, however, is a curriculum that is totally Bible-based and Christ-centered. Such a curriculum would base every lesson on a passage of Scripture and bring all thoughts to Jesus Christ.
What are the benefits of using this curriculum?
Students will be in awe of God and the Book He has written! Their knowledge of the Bible will be dramatically enhanced. Their interest in the subject matter will increase as they view illustrations from fascinating Bible stories. Because a variety of textbooks has been consulted in writing this curriculum, these Bible-based courses are very comprehensive.
The teacher will be thrilled at the opportunity to uplift students spiritually as well as academically. Brighter students will be challenged to think independently. Slower students will find more interest in their academic subjects than ever before.
A Scriptural mandate for Bible-based lessons is found in Deuteronomy 6:6,7
"And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou riseth up."
The Bedell Curriculum is being written to accomplish this goal!
A Scriptural mandate for Christ-centered lessons is found in II Corinthians 10:5
"Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ..."
The Bedell Curriculum is being written to accomplish this goal as well!
